About Anangpal II

  • Dynasty: He popularly known as AnangpalTomar, belonged to the Tomar dynasty.
  • Territory: He ruled parts of present-day Delhi and Haryana between the 8th and 12th centuries.
    • The iron pillar of Masjid Quwaatul Islam, adjacent to the QutabMinar suggests that Anangpal of the TomarRajputs founded Delhi between 1053 and 1109 AD.
    • Anangapal II was the founder of Dhillikapuri, which eventually became Delhi.
    • The region was in ruins when he ascended the throne in the 11th century.
    • Architecture: it was he who built LalKot fort and Anang Tal Baoli.

Tomar Dynasty

  • The Tomaradynasty ruled parts of present-day Delhi and Haryana in India during the 8th-12th century.
    • Their rule over this region is attested to by multiple inscriptions and coins.
  • They were displaced by the Chahamanas of Shakambhari in the 12th century.
  • AnangpalTomar II was succeeded by his grandson
    • The Delhi Sultanate was established in 1192 after PrithvirajChauhan’s defeat in the Battle of Tarain (present-day Haryana) by the Ghurid forces.
