Context
The Indian Space Research Organization (Isro) launched a constellation of 36 broadband satellites developed by OneWeb to Low Earth Orbit.
About
- The satellites were launched onboard the Launch Vehicle Mark-III, which is a redesignated version of the Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV Mk-III), from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
- This is the first commercial launch for LVM-3 and the mission is being conducted under an agreement between OneWeb and New Space India Limited (NSIL).
- The OneWeb satellites operate in Low Earth orbit (LEO) at an altitude of 1,200 kilometers.
- The geosynchronous orbit, on the other hand, is located 35,786 kilometers above Earth's equator.
|
- The satellites are a part of the 468 satellite constellation of OneWeb released into Leo Earth Orbit to provide Internet access to areas which are impossible to provide.
LVM3-M2
- LVM3-M2 is a three-stage launch vehicle consisting of two solid propellant S200 strap-ons on its sides and core stage comprising L110 liquid stage and C25 cryogenic stage.
- The LVM3-M2 mission would give a boost to the space agency with the new launch vehicle to place satellites into low earth orbit (LEO), along with its trusted workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
OneWeb Ltd, is the UK-based customer for NSIL and it is a global communication network powered from space, enabling internet connectivity for governments and businesses.
