On the lines of UPSC, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducts Bihar PCS exam to recruit officers in the state administration. In this article we are giving the detailed exam pattern of BPSC Combined Competitive Exam 2019.

As per the BPSC website, there will be 3 stages in the Combined Competitive Exam:

  1. Prelims
  2. Mains
  3. Interview

BPSC Exam Pattern:

Stage 1: Prelims

  • One Objective Type Paper
  • Full marks: 150
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Mode: Offline (Pen-Paper)

Stage 2: Mains

  • Total 4 papers
  • One qualifying paper (Hindi)
  • 3 Papers for merit: 900 marks (300*3)
  • Duration: 3 hours for each paper
  • Subjective Type (Essay type)
  • Offline (Pen-Paper)

Stage 3: Interview

  • Total Marks: 120 
  • Merit list is drawn based on marks in Mains + Interview

The exam pattern of BPSC is closely aligned with UPSC Civil Services i.e. IAS exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The detailed BPSC Exam Pattern 2019  of Bihar PSC is given below:

Important points to remember:

    1. Prelims is a screening test i.e its marks are not added in the Mains marks to determine merit list.
    2. Application is Online on the BPSC Website
    3. In the Prelims there is only one paper of General Studies
    4. There is no negative marking

  • Minimum qualifying marks in prelims are:

    1. General: 40%
    2. BC: 36.5%
    3. OBC: 34%
    4. Women/SC/ST/PWD: 32%

Prelims Syllabus: There are the following topics:

  1. General Science
  2. Events of national and international importance
  3. History of Bihar and Indian History
  4. Geography
  5. Geography of Bihar
  6. Indian Polity and Economy
  7. Changes in the economy of Bihar post-independence
  8. Indian National Movement and Role of Bihar
  9. General Mental Ability

BPSC Mains Exam Pattern 2019: We are giving the detailed exam pattern of BPSC Mains below:

  1. As per the latest exam pattern of BPSC Mains given on BPSC Website, there will be four exam papers of subjective type.
    1. General Hindi (Qualifying) – 100 marks (Minimum qualifying marks – 30 marks)
    2. General Studies Paper 1 – 300 marks
    3. General Studies Paper 2 – 300 marks
    4. One Optional Subject – 300 marks

  1. Each paper will be of 3 hours duration and of subjective essay type.
  2. Candidates can write the paper in either HIndi, Urdu or English as per the preference in application form.

Candidates who clear the Mains stage are called for the Interview. The Interview is of 120 Marks. Final merit list is created based on candidates’ marks in both Mains & Interview.
