The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released the Annual Crime in India Report – 2019.

  • 7% increase in crime against Schedule Castes (SCs) and 26 % increase in Crime against Schedule Tribes (ST) in 2019 as compared to 2018.
  • Highest number of crimes against SCs registered in Uttar Pradesh followed by Rajasthan and Bihar.
  • Highest number of crimes against STs registered in Madhya Pradesh followed by Rajasthan and Odisha
  • Crimes against women registered a 7.3% increase.
    Majority of cases under crime against women under IPC were registered under ‘cruelty by husband or his relatives’ (30.9%)
  • Highest number of incidents of rape of tribal women registered in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Highest number of incidents of rape of SC women registered in Rajasthan followed by Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
  • Cybercrimes: increased by 63.5 % in 2019. The maximum case registered were of fraud (60.4%), followed by motive of sexual exploitation (5.1%).
  • NCRB act as a repository of information on crime and criminals.
  • It was recommendation of the Tandon Committee, National Police Commission (1977-1981) and the Task Force of the Ministry of Home Affairs
  • It Works under Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • NCRB brings out three annual reports i.e. Crime in India, Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India and Prison Statistics India.
