  • It is a centralized program, launched by the Department of Rural Development in June 2011.
  • It aims to eradicate rural poverty by promoting more livelihoods and improved access to financial services for the poorest rural households across the country.
  • It involves working with community institutions through community professionals in the spirit of self-help which is a unique proposition of DAY-NRLM.
  • It contributes to the well-being of the community as a whole by organizing one female member from each poor rural home into Self Help Groups (SHGs), training and skills building, simplifying their livelihoods, and enabling them to use their livelihood by accessing financial resources in their institutions and banks.
  • It is used in the Mission approach with special purpose vehicles (state NGOs) with dedicated support units at national, state, regional and block level, using trained personnel resources to provide ongoing and long-term support for rural poor families.
