About the Doria’s foam-nesting treefrog

  • Scientific nomenclature: Chirixalus doriae
  • Habitat: It was first described in 1893 from Karin Bia-po in Myanmar and also sighted in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Bangladesh.
    • The treefrog was last recorded in India in 1912, in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tenga Valley.
  • Features: It has the presence of opposable fingers.
    • The species apparently is rare in India.
    • Treefrogs usually change their colour from lighter to darker or tan.
    • This frog secrets foam for covering the eggs the female lays.
      • The foam guards the eggs from predators, direct sunlight and desiccation.
  • Location: The Doria’s foam-nesting treefrog was spotted in the buffer area of Mizoram’s Pualreng Wildlife Sanctuary.

  • The sanctuary is situated in Mizoram.
  • It harbors a great diversity of rare and endangered animals and birds.
