Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
- The development of Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) for an investment of Rs 1,200 crore will be done in the village of Makapu in Tiruvallur district of Chennai Port.
- The Minister of Maritime Industry, Shipping and Waterways, has announced the establishment of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the development of MMLP at V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC) Port in Chennai.
- The MMLP will be developed through a partnership between government and the private sector (PPP).
- SPV will provide land and connectivity to MMLP infrastructure that will be developed by a private engineer.
- NHAI / NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) under the Department of Roads and Highways have been tasked with developing MMLPs.

- There will be three stakeholders - Chennai Port Authority, TIDCO and NHAI will be partners.
Key-points
- The Government of India has taken a novel initiative to develop 35 Multimodal Logistic Parks (MMLP) under Bharatmala Pariyojana across the country. As in this MMLP network, Chennai is among the first to be selected to launch.
- As part of the MMLP, a Chennai Port official received a 121.74-hectare land parcel during a 99-year lease from SIPCOT for the purpose of building Durban Port.
- The MMLP will provide smooth Rail-road connectivity, proximity to the Main Sea Route, all working climate conditions, and the local context for linking the East Coast and West Coast.
- It will facilitate seamless multi modal freight transfer, and specialized storage solutions, such as cold storage, warehouses equipped with mechanized material handling and inter modal transfer terminals for containers, bulk and break-bulk cargo.
