Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Ltd (TRIFED) is organizing “GI Mahotsav” in collaboration with Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and Ministry of Culture.
What is Geographical Indication (GI)?
- Geographical indications (GI) refer to a type of intellectual property (IP) protection which identifies goods with a geographical region.
- The GI tagging is attributed in such a manner that quality, reputation and other salient features of the commodity are linked to the location of origin.
- The GI tag for a product can be used only by legitimate users and the residents of the territory of origin
About GI Mahotsav
- GI Mahotsav is the exhibition and demonstration of the various GI products from across the country
- To increase the awareness of these products amongst the IAS probationers and sensitize them about the rich cultural heritage of India so that they can in-turn formulate policies that safeguard the interest of GI products in their region.
Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Ltd (TRIFED)
- TRIFED was established in August 1987 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984
- TRIFED is mandated to ringing about socio-economic development of tribals of the country by institutionalising the trade of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) & Surplus Agricultural Produce (SAP) collected/ cultivated by them.
- TRIFED plays the dual role of both a market developer and a service provider.
- TRIFED is involved actively in capacity building of the tribal people through sensitisation and the formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs).
- TRIFED Programs
